Il Riesling è uno dei migliori e più importanti vitigni allevati in territorio tedesco e i vigneti di ardesia sulla Mosella, Saar e Ruwer sono attualmente tra i più ambiti al mondo. Perchè?
Il vitigno Riesling è caratterizzato da un’eccellente resistenza al gelo invernale; la fermentazione malolattica, che si verifica in molti vini bianchi, viene qui impedita perché vista come indesiderabile e pertanto la percentuale di acido malico nei vini Riesling è estremamente elevata. In nessuna altra zona al mondo vengono prodotti dei vini simili con un’acidità talmente splendida, tanto che quasi mai si ha l’impressione di degustare vini dalla dolcezza opulenta. E la cosa si fa ancor più affascinante se i vini vengono degustati dopo molti anni d’invecchiamento, apparendo decisamente ancora giovani grazie all’estrema freschezza. I vini conservano un residuo zuccherino per interruzione della fermentazione, permettendo l’espressione di un corredo aromatico-fruttato unico, in particolare il Trockenbeerenauslese, con prezzi estremamente alti perché vere e proprie rarità. Ma ne esistono anche altre tipologie con diverso residuo zuccherino fino ad arrivare ai Trocken che ne possiedono meno di 9 gr./l.
La sua più grande regione di produzione in Germania è la Mosella, e i luoghi più noti della Mosella sono il Piesporter Goldtröpfchen ed il Piesporter Domherr. Le diverse tipologie di vini provenienti de queste zone presentano sfumature dalla mela verde all’ albicocca, con alti residui zuccherini che l’elevata acidità tende a mitigare conferendo piacevolezza e vivacità. La particolarità di molte aziende locali resta il carattere familiare che fa sì che non ci si appoggi usualmente a consulenze esterne, ma si decida la conduzione aziendale all’interno della famiglia stessa. Diventano pertanto fondamentali gli scambi con gli altri produttori e i feedback ricevuti, pur sempre nel rispetto del processo di maturazione delle uve, artefici primarie nella determinazione delle caratteristiche del prodotto finale.
E proprio nel Piesporter si trova la piccola azienda vinicola Josef Reuscher Erben con 1,17 ettari di vigneto ed una tradizione vitivinicola fin dal 1624, epoca dei cavalieri imperiali. Originariamente col nome Reischer, oggi Reuscher, la storia di famiglia inizia quando il 1° febbraio 1858 Sebastian Reuscher da Monzel, il trisnonno di Martin, attuale proprietario e cantiniere, sposa Anna Maria Prösch, la cui famiglia possiede a quel tempo la più grande azienda vinicola di Piesport. In seguito, nel 1887, il bisnonno Matthias Josef Reuscher sposa Gertrud Lorenz, morendo molto giovane a 35 anni e lasciando la vedova Gertrud a gestire la cantina da sola. Infine anche il nonno di Martin, Josef Reuscher, si unisce in matrimonio con una donna proveniente da una locale famiglia produttrice di vino, tale Margarete Lehnert di Piesport. Oggi è Martin a condurre il vigneto di famiglia nel cuore del Goldtröpfchen, un territorio di circa cinque ettari vitati esposto a sud ad un’altitudine dai 120 ai 150 metri sul livello del mare e con una pendenza dal 30 al 70% . Il suolo pietroso, profondo e argilloso è intervallato da quarzo con un’alta percentuale di terra fine. A causa delle estese aree boscose sopra i ripidi vigneti, gode di un eccellente equilibrio idrico. Nella zona è stato ritrovato il più antico torchio di origine romanica, permettendoci di affermare che in quest’area si allevavano viti già da circa 2000 anni, torchio che viene utilizzato ogni anno durante una grande festa del vino.
Il vino da me degustato quest’anno è il loro Piesporter Domherr Riesling Spatlese Trocken 2022 
Dal naso spiccatamente floreale, di fiori bianchi, ma anche tanto rosmarino su una leggera nota di pietra focaia, al gusto si presenta fresco e vivace, con una sensazione dolce in entrata che si esaurisce subito lasciando il posto ad un sorso comunque morbido, equilibrato, scorrevole, di grande sapidità e dal finale ammandorlato.
Oltre che come piacevole calice di aperitivo, la sua versatilità lo conduce verso piatti di crostacei o formaggi freschi così come un delicato risotto.

Riesling is one of the best and most important grape varieties bred in Germany and the slate vineyards on the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer are currently among the most coveted in the world. Why?
The Riesling vine is characterized by an excellent resistance to winter frost; malolactic fermentation, which occurs in many white wines, is prevented here because it is seen as undesirable and therefore the percentage of malic acid in Riesling wines is extremely high. In no other area in the world are similar wines produced with such splendid acidity, so much so that one almost never gets the impression of tasting wines with opulent sweetness. And it becomes even more fascinating if the wines are tasted after many years of ageing, appearing decidedly still young thanks to their extreme freshness. The wines retain a sugary residue due to interruption of fermentation, allowing the expression of a unique aromatic-fruity outfit, in particular the Trockenbeerenauslese, with extremely high prices because they are real rarities. But there are also other types with different residual sugar up to the Trocken which have less than 9 g/l.
Its largest production region in Germany is the Moselle, and the best-known Moselle locations are the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen and the Piesporter Domherr. The different types of wines from these areas have nuances from green apple to apricot, with high sugar residues that the high acidity tends to mitigate, giving pleasantness and liveliness. The peculiarity of many local companies remains the family nature which means that one does not usually rely on external consultancy, but decides the management of the company within the family itself. Exchanges with other producers and the feedback received therefore become fundamental, while always respecting the ripening process of the grapes, the primary architects in determining the characteristics of the final product.
And right in the Piesporter is the small Josef Reuscher Erben winery with 1.17 hectares of vineyards and a winemaking tradition since 1624, the era of the imperial knights. Originally under the name Reischer, today Reuscher, the family history begins when on February 1, 1858 Sebastian Reuscher da Monzel, Martin’s great-great-grandfather, current owner and cellarman, marries Anna Maria Prösch, whose family owns the largest winery at that time Piesport winery. Later, in 1887, the great-grandfather Matthias Josef Reuscher married Gertrud Lorenz, dying very young at 35 and leaving the widow Gertrud to manage the cellar alone. Finally, Martin’s grandfather, Josef Reuscher, also marries a woman from a local wine-producing family, Margarete Lehnert from Piesport. The stony, deep clayey soil is interspersed with quartz with a high proportion of fine earth. Due to the extensive wooded areas above the steep vineyards, it enjoys an excellent water balance. The oldest press of Romanesque origin was found in the area, allowing us to state that vines have been grown in this area for about 2000 years, a press that is used every year during a great wine festival.

With a distinctly floral nose, of white flowers, but also a lot of rosemary on a light note of flint, the taste is fresh and lively, with a sweet sensation on entry that runs out immediately, giving way to a soft, balanced sip. flowing, of great flavor and with an almond finish.
In addition to being a pleasant glass of aperitif, its versatility leads it to dishes of shellfish or fresh cheeses as well as a delicate risotto.
